Office: Upazila Livestock office and Veterinary Hospital, Dhamrai, Dhaka

Head of the office: Upazila Livestock Officer

Overview of the Office:

The Upazila Livestock Office and Veterinary Hospital of Dhamrai in Dhaka is a traditional and ancient institution. This office has been working in animal husbandry and welfare since 1924. During the British rule, the department treated cattle, fancy pigeons and horses. The organization has been working tirelessly for the development of livestock since British, Pakistan and post-independence. As a result, Dhamrai Upazila is now self-sufficient in milk, eggs and meat. At present, as milk, egg and meat production surplus against the demand, these products are marketed in other districts including Dhaka city.
As part of various programs, socio-economic development of poor and marginal people is being carried out through artificial insemination, treatment, vaccination, expansion of grass cultivation and various projects under the supervision of this office. In addition, unemployed youths are being developed as entrepreneurs through training and mentoring. Employment of women has been created through the transfer of various relevant technologies in goat and poultry rearing.
At present, Dhamrai Upazila produces 70,000 metric tons of milk, 200 million eggs and 40000 metric tons of meat in the fiscal year 2020-21.
